Some tasty stuff in the latest Computer Arts Projects Magazine – Issue 91, December 2006.
This issue celebrates the rediscovery of Photoshop in a number of fields, from illustration and design to film and advertising. It showcases and speaks to users who have embraced this fresh approach, and shows you how to get the best from Photoshop in new contexts.
There is also a free ‘Digital Artist Showcase’ supplement (A5 size) with inspirational work and practical insights from ten digital artists:
Atomic Attack, Dwayne Bell, Jon Burgerman, Neil Duerden, FL@33, ISO50, Coneyl Jay, No Pattern, The Ronin and Vault49.
I like the first tip from Atomic Attack – ‘Have an idea first’ but best of all is Neil Duerden’s tip – ‘Have fun’. Yay!

Dan Santat goes through the process of how he made this year’s Macy’s Day Parade Poster.
The criteria were pretty strict, all the licensed characters had particular pantone colors and structure that he had to adhere to and Macy’s had to be the exact Macy’s RED.

Liverpool Biennial Independents 2006 – Image of the Week – FUN by Carlos Sarria

We like the techiness behind the creation of this image and we reckon Carlos had fun creating it. He explains…
“Created with a recursive algorithm which feeds back the output of a mathematical equation into itself for several iterations. The final result is modulated and mapped to a colour gradient. For this series, the ASCII values of the word FUN and its variations have been used as seed.”

You can see that we are delighted to announce that our Digital Show is being showcased at Liverpool Walker Art Gallery for the final two weeks of the Liverpool Biennial. The Walker is probably the biggest municipal art gallery outside London and is The National Gallery of the North.
Ok, strictly speaking its offline as we created a looping slideshow with each image displaying for about 6 seconds and its just the images, there’s no text other than the notice above the screen explaining what its all about.
Also its just showing on this one screen but its right next to the John Moores painting prize exhibition which is a major part of the Biennial and this is the Walker! Its a major thing to have an exhibition here, however small.
Not entirely sure of the etiquette as the Walker did not commission or curate the work, they are merely facilitating the showing of it as a temporary display. So the artists in the show would be stretching things a bit to say they have exhibited at the Walker but could probably say they were part of an exhibition which was shown at the Walker. I think.
