Futuresonic 2008

An annual festival of art, music and ideas, which is currently in its 12th year, Futuresonic occupies the orbits of both music and digital culture.

A focus in recent years has been presenting artworks in unexpected city spaces, and on social art and social technologies.

Futuresonic now invites artists, thinkers and makers to get social and present new types of collaborative social experience at Futuresonic 2008.

This is a time when we see how electronic communication can isolate us, as more and more people drown in a deluge of email that generates stress, even reducing IQ; and it is 40 years since people took to the streets of Paris in 1968 calling for society to be abolished.

Join us as we go in search of the social today.

Web 2.0…
I take part
you take part
he takes part
we take part
you all take part
they profit.
(Slogan from Paris ‘68, remixed)

Create Your Own Album in the Gallery

Trojan_horse.jpg

You can now register and create your own album in the online gallery.
Its quite straightforward but registrations and uploads have to be approved by us before they appear as we do get a lot of spam attempts.

Remember though that Digital Show focuses on artwork created predominantly using computer software, its not for photography or videos.

Chris Bennett has just uploaded a couple of great images including this ‘Trojan Horse’

MA Digital Art Forum – Camberwell

Spectrumlatest.jpg

I know we normally only show still images on this website but, of course, we love animation too.
We’ll have to look out for more of this sort of show, there’s a lot of really cool digital work going on the colleges which doesn’t get seen much on the ‘outside’.

So thanks to those studying MA in digital arts at the London University of the Arts Camberwell for letting us know about their forum taking place today where students are showing short films (2 minute) presenting their work.

Haven’t had time to watch them all yet.

cap103cover.jpgComputer Arts Projects issue 103

The latest issue of Computer Arts Projects asks the art directors, agents and buyers what they like to see and how they like to see it. Also a peek into all sorts of portfolios to see how some of our leading designers and illustrators present their work and offer you help, advice and inspiration in the form of invaluable tutorials, useful articles and plenty of sumptuous visual stimulation.

They’ve resized the magazine (= made it smaller), improved the paper stock and added more pages.

Oli Goldsmith

oli-goldsmith-1.jpg

Well I don’t think I’ve seen this before. Taking the term digital art to the extreme, New York’s Oli Goldsmith embeds LCD screens into canvas frames and called them ‘videocanvases’. Clever.

Oli says
“By embedding screens directly into canvases I am starting to blend these two worlds and introduce motion and an amazing dynamic element of digital video to artworks that really serve to make them feel like living, evolving entities.

My first such ‘videocanvases’ use an approach that excitingly allows for the video content to be expanded through flash memory cards. Seeing beyond this type of expansion though, and definitely the most pivotal element in this new direction of all, is the use of screens that are WiFi enabled (wirelessly connected to the net in the same way your laptop is today).”

Digital Artwork by Ralph Manis

Some outstanding images by Ralph Manis on his Infinitee Designs website.
This one is ‘Girl on a Cliff’
Girl modeled with Poser 4, terrain, and sky rendered in Bryce 5. Tree, cliff, moon, stars, dress, flowers and hair done with Photoshop 7. A 3D/2D recreation of a silk-screen print I made in the 70’s. Tranquil and daring, she watches the sunset over the horizon.

Also tutorials including this portrait of Angie which featured in the Femme Digitale book.
Face modeled in Poser, edited with Maya, materials, hair and touch up’s done with Photoshop, model manipulation and render done with Bryce.
